"Bitcoin takes aim at $10,000, nears two-month high
Buoyed by news Goldman Sachs is opening a crypto-trading desk, bitcoin adds 6%
The push for widespread adoption of cryptocurrencies got a boost Wednesday when U.S. investment bank Goldman Sachs Group GS, +0.00% announced it would be opening a cryptocurrency trading desk. In an interview with the New York Times, Goldman executive Rana Yared, who will oversee the operation, admitted she wasn’t completely sold on digital currencies. “I would not describe myself as a true believer who wakes up thinking bitcoin will take over the world,” Yared told the newspaper. This is a sentiment that Goldman CEO Lloyd Blankfein has shared in the past. In a November interview with CNBC, Blankfein said “maybe bitcoin is a kind of bubble,” adding that he is not comfortable with it." www.marketwatch...desk-2018-05-03?siteid=big...

Bitcoin is rallying — and can no longer be dismissed. Here are 3 reasons why
Bitcoin prices continue to climb, reaching nearly $10,000 on Friday.
Goldman Sachs' move into the cryptocurrency market, regulatory clarity and the upcoming Blockchain Week NYC have all increased demand for bitcoin.
Bitcoin is rallying and can no longer be ignored, said Brian Kelly, founder and CEO of BKCM LLC, an investment firm focused on digital currencies.
"It's a serious market," Kelly said from Hoover Institution's annual Monetary Policy Conference at Stanford University on Friday.
"When I would go to events like this in years past, you would kind of dismiss bitcoin," Kelly said on "Fast Money." "But it's been brought up several times at this conference and taken quite seriously. And I think you have to with a market cap at half a trillion dollars." www.cnbc.com/2018/05...sed-brian-kelly.html

Bitcoin prices slumped below $9,200 after nearing $10,000 over the weekend following criticism from some notable billionaires.
Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett called bitcoin "probably rat poison squared," Berkshire Chairman Charlie Munger said trading in cryptocurrencies is "just dementia," and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates told CNBC that he would bet against bitcoin if he could.
Speculation that the SEC and CFTC are meeting Monday could also be having a negative pull on prices. www.cnbc.com/2018/05...gates-criticism.html
