Easy to use strategy test using MACD with RSI as a confirming indicator. The code is structured to make it easy to manipulate the variables to your choosing.
EASY TO CHANGE CODE VARIABLES
LINE 2 = Change the amount you invest every trade and the currency
LINE 8/9/10 = Change the defval of each of these lines to backtest from a certain date
LINE 16/17/18 = Change the MACD sensitivity by changing the defval on each line

As a beginner you may not feel comfortable with shorting stocks, therefore LINE 5 was added to only allows long positions.
Funny how a simple indicator can return such a high profitability. Couple this with some trend/exit strategies and you'll have something really special!

found the default MACD strategy to be lacking, although impressive for its simplicity. I added "year>2014" to the IF buy/sell conditions so it will only backtest from 2015 and beyond ** .
I also had a problem with the standard MACD trading late, per se. To that end I modified the inputs for fast/slow/signal to double. Example: my defaults are 10, 21, 10 so I put 20, 42, 20 in. This has the effect of making a 30min interval the same as 1 hour at 10,21,10. So if you want to backtest at 4hr, you would set your time interval to 2hr on the main chart. This is a handy way to make shorter time periods more useful even regardless of strategy/testing, since you can view 15min with alot less noise but a better response.
Used on BTCCNY OKcoin, with the chart set at 45 min (so really 90min in the strategy) this gave me a percent profitable of 42% and a profit factor of 1.998 on 189 trades.
Personally, I like to set the length/signals to 30,63,30. Meaning you need to triple the time, it allows for much better use of shorter time periods and the backtests are remarkably profitable. (i.e. 15min chart view = 45min on script, 30min= 1.5hr on script)
** If you want more specific time periods you need to try plugging in different bar values: replace "year" with "n" and "2014" with "5500". The bars are based on unix time I believe so you will need to play around with the number for n, with n being the numbers of bars.

Summary
This indicator augments classic MACD with a robust, confirmed pivot-based divergence engine and an optional signal channel using Bollinger Bands. Divergence signals are only produced after a pivot is confirmed, which reduces noise from transient swings. A line-of-sight clearance check filters cases where the MACD histogram path contradicts the divergence, further cutting false flags. Histogram coloring clarifies momentum changes, while optional triangles project the same signals onto the main chart for quick context.
Motivation: Why this design?
Standard MACD divergence tools tend to fire early in volatile phases and flip during consolidation. The core idea here is to delay decision points until a pivot is confirmed and to validate the path between pivots. This addresses fake flips and improves signal credibility at the cost of some latency. Optional bands around the Signal line add context about compression and expansion without altering MACD’s core behavior.
What’s different vs. standard approaches?
Reference baseline: Classical MACD (fast and slow moving averages, Signal line, histogram) with simple divergence checks.
Architecture differences:
Confirmed pivot logic with left and right bars.
Line-of-sight clearance test across the histogram path between pivots.
Optional Signal-line Bollinger Bands with configurable length and width.
Composite “Any Divergence” alert plus separate regular and hidden alerts.
Optional main-chart triangles using forced overlay for at-a-glance context.
Practical effect: Fewer early or contradictory divergence signals, clearer momentum context via histogram colors and a visible Signal channel during compression and expansion.
How it works (technical)
The MACD line derives from a fast and a slow moving average on a chosen source. The Signal line smooths the MACD line using a selected moving average type and length. The histogram is the difference between MACD and Signal and is colored by direction and acceleration.
Divergence uses confirmed pivots: a pivot forms only after a set number of bars on the right side, so the event is locked in. The engine retrieves the last two relevant pivots and checks price movement versus the MACD histogram movement to classify regular or hidden divergence. A line-of-sight clearance routine traverses the histogram path between the two pivots and rejects the signal if the path invalidates the directional relationship. When enabled, Bollinger Bands are plotted around the Signal line; width scales with standard deviation. Programmatic alerts fire only on confirmed bars. No higher-timeframe requests are used.
Parameter Guide
Oscillator MA Type — Sets fast and slow MA family for MACD. Default: EMA. Tip: EMA is more responsive; SMA is steadier.
Fast Length — Fast MA period. Default: 12. Trade-off: Shorter is quicker but noisier.
Slow Length — Slow MA period. Default: 26. Trade-off: Longer reduces noise but adds lag.
Source — Price input. Default: Close. Tip: Use a stable source for consistency.
Signal MA Type — Moving average family for Signal. Default: EMA.
Signal Length — Smoothing of MACD into Signal. Default: 9. Trade-off: Longer smooths more, reacts slower.
Calculate Divergence — Enables divergence engine. Default: True.
Enable Bollinger Bands on Signal — Adds bands around Signal. Default: False.
BB Length — Sampling window for bands. Default: 20. Active: Only when bands are enabled.
BB StdDev — Band width in standard deviations. Default: 2.0. Bounds: between about zero point zero zero one and fifty.
Pivot Left / Pivot Right — Bars to the left and right that define a confirmed pivot. Default: five and five. Trade-off: Larger values mean stronger but slower pivots.
Min / Max Bars Between Pivots — Valid window between two pivots. Default: five and sixty. Tip: Increase minimum to reduce micro-divergences.
Detect Hidden — Include hidden divergence. Default: True.
Draw Lines — Draw connector lines on the MACD pane. Default: True.
Alerts: Enable / Regular / Hidden / Frequency / Prefix — Control alert emission, categories, cadence, and label. Defaults: Enabled, both categories on, once per bar close, prefix “MACD RM”.
Reading & Interpretation
Histogram: Columns above zero reflect positive momentum; below zero reflect negative momentum. Color shifts indicate momentum increasing or decreasing within each side.
MACD and Signal: Crosses and distance indicate momentum shifts and strength. When bands are enabled, touches and departures hint at compression and expansion around the Signal.
Divergence: Solid green lines and labels indicate regular bullish; solid red indicate regular bearish. Dashed teal and dashed orange denote hidden bullish and hidden bearish. Triangles on the main chart mirror these events for quicker visibility.
Practical Workflows & Combinations
Trend following: Use histogram color transitions with a structure filter such as higher highs and higher lows for long bias, or lower highs and lower lows for short bias. Divergence against the prevailing structure suggests caution or partial exits.
Exits and risk: In a long, regular bearish divergence near resistance can justify scaling out or tightening stops. Hidden divergence in the trend direction can support continuation but should not replace risk controls.
Multi-asset / Multi-timeframe: Works across liquid futures, forex, indices, and large-cap equities. Start with defaults on four-hour and daily; shorten lengths on intraday only when liquidity is strong.
Behavior, Constraints & Performance
Repaint and confirmation: Signals are anchored only after the right-side pivot bars complete; alerts trigger on confirmed bars. This intentionally adds latency to reduce noise.
No higher-timeframe requests: No `security` calls are used; repaint risk is primarily tied to live bars before confirmation.
Resources: Declared `max_bars_back` is five hundred. The divergence path check iterates between pivots, bounded by the maximum bars parameter. Line objects may accumulate; limits are set for lines and labels.
Known limits: Latency at sharp turns, potential misses during fast single-bar reversals, and sensitivity to extremely choppy sessions if minimum gap between pivots is set too low.
Sensible Defaults & Quick Tunin g
Starting point: EMA, twelve and twenty-six with Signal nine; pivots five and five; minimum five, maximum sixty; alerts on close; bands off.
Too many flips: Increase Signal length, raise pivot counts, and increase minimum bars between pivots. Consider disabling hidden divergence.
Too sluggish: Reduce pivot counts, lower Signal length, and enable bands to visualize early compression.
Cluttered chart: Keep lines off and rely on labels and main-chart triangles. Use the alert prefix to route events cleanly.
What this indicator is—and isn’t
This is a visualization and signal layer for MACD with confirmed, path-checked divergence and optional Signal bands. It is not a trading system, not predictive, and not a position management framework. Use it together with structure analysis, liquidity context, and explicit risk controls.

I created the MACD-v in 2015,
as a way to deal with the limitations
of well known indicators like the Stochastic, RSI, MACD.
I decided to publicly share a very small part of my research
in the form of a research paper I wrote in 2022,

❌ 2. WHY CREATE THE MACD-v ?
THE LIMITATIONS OF CONVENTIONAL MOMENTUM INDICATORS

Technical Analysis indicators focused on momentum,
come in two general categories,
each with its own set of limitations:
(i) Range Bound Oscillators (RSI, Stochastics, etc)
These usually have a scaling of 0-100,
and thus have the advantage of having normalised readings,
that are comparable across time and securities.
However they have the following limitations (among others):
1. Skewing effect of steep trends
2. Indicator values do not adjust with and reflect true momentum
(indicator values are capped to 100)
(ii) Unbound Oscillators (MACD, RoC, etc)
These are boundless indicators,
and can expand with the market,
without being limited by a 0-100 scaling,
and thus have the advantage of really measuring momentum.
They have the main following limitations (among others):
1. Subjectivity of overbought / oversold levels
2. Not comparable across time
3. Not comparable across securities

💡 3. THE SOLUTION TO SOLVE THESE LIMITATIONS
=======================================
In order to deal with these limitations,
I decided to create an indicator,
that would be the "Best of two worlds".
A unique & hybrid indicator,
that would have objective normalised readings
(similar to Range Bound Oscillators - RSI)
but would also be able to have no upper/lower boundaries
(similar to Unbound Oscillators - MACD).
This would be achieved by "normalising" a boundless oscillator (MACD)

⛔ 4. DEEP DIVE INTO THE 5 LIMITATIONS OF THE MACD
==================================================
A Bloomberg study found that the MACD
is the most popular indicator after the RSI,
but the MACD has 5 BIG limitations.
Limitation 1: MACD values are not comparable across Time
The raw MACD values shift
as the underlying security's absolute value changes across time,
making historical comparisons obsolete
e.g S&P 500 maximum MACD was 1.56 in 1957-1971,
but reached 86.31 in 2019-2021 - not indicating 55x stronger momentum,
but simply different price levels.
Limitation 2: MACD values are not comparable across Assets
Traditional MACD cannot compare momentum between different assets.
S&P 500 MACD of 65 versus EUR/USD MACD of -0.5
reflects absolute price differences, not momentum differences
Limitation 3: MACD values cannot be Systematically Classified
Due to limitations #1 & #2, it is not possible to create
a momentum level classification scale
where one can define "fast", "slow", "overbought", "oversold" momentum
making systematic analysis impossible
Limitation 4: MACD Signal Line gives false crossovers in low-momentum ranges
In range-bound, low momentum environments,
most of the MACD signal line crossovers are false (noise)
Since there is no objective momentum classification system (limitation #3),
it is not possible to filter these signals out,
by avoiding them when momentum is low
Limitation 5: MACD Signal Line gives late crossovers in high momentum regimes.
Signal lag in strong trends not good at timing the turning point
— In high-momentum moves, MACD crossovers may come late.
Since there is no objective momentum classification system (limitation #3),
it is not possible to filter these signals out,
by avoiding them when momentum is high

It remedies these 5 limitations of the classic MACD,
while creating a tool with unique properties.

RedK K-MACD : a MACD with some more musclesMoving Averages are probably the most commonly used analysis tools, and MACD is possibly the first charting indicator a trader gets to learn about.
MACD Basic concept
----------------------------
Without repeating all the tons of documentation about what MACD does, let's quickly re-visit the MACD concept from a 10-mile altitude (note we're keen on simplifying here rather than being technically accurate - so please forgive the use of any "common lingos")
- MACD goal is to represent the distance between 2 Moving Averages (MAs) - one fast and one slow, relatively - as an unrestricted zero-based oscillator.
- The value of the main MACD line is the distance, or the displacement between the 2 MA's
- usually a signal line is used (which is another MA of that distance value) to enable better visualization of the change (and rate of change, since this is all depicted on a time axis) of that displacement - this represents price momentum (price movement in the recent period versus movements for a relatively longer period).
- the difference between the main MACD line and its signal is then represented as a histogram above and below the zero line. in this case, that histogram is really redundant, since it shows a value that is already represented visually by the main line and its signal line.
How K-MACD is different
---------------------------------
K-MACD takes that simple concept of the classic MACD and expands around it - the idea is to use the same simple approach to representing price momentum while bringing in more insight to price moves in the short, medium and long terms, ability to represent more than 2 MA's and to enable better identification of tradeable patterns (like Volatility Contraction and others) - while still keeping things simple and visually clean.
K-MACD is an indicator that allows us to view how price moves against 3 moving averages: a fast / slow pair, and a "market" Filter or Baseline (very long) that will be used as a flag for Bear/Bull market mode. Many traders and trading literature use the 200 day (40 week) SMA as that key filter
so in total, there are 4 MA lines in K-MACD (excluding the "orange" signal line):
* Price Proxy: Which is a very fast moving average that will represent the price itself - let's use a WMA(3) or something close to that here - there will be a signal line to enable better visualization of this similar to a classic MACD - that's the orange line
* Fast & Slow MA's : Use whatever represents the "medium term" momentum for your trading - Some traders use 20 and 50, others use 10 and 20 .. if on your price chart, you keep using a pair of MA's for this, use the same settings in K-MACD - these will be represented by the 3-color Momentum Bars that fluctuate above and below the baseline
* Filter/Baseline MA: Should be your long (Bullish/Bearish Mode) MA. so 100 or 200 or any other value you consider your market to be bearish below and bullish above. on K-MACD this is actually the blue zero line - everything else is "relative" to it
Review the sample chart which explains various elements and the "price chart" setup that K-MACD represents. With K-MACD you can clean up your chart from those various Moving Averages - or use a different set than the ones you already have K-MACD represent - or other indicators (like ATR channels..etc)

- Relative vs Classic Calculation Mode
A key issue with the classic MACD is that the displacement between the 2 moving averages is represented as "absolute or direct" values - as the price of the underlying increases with time, you can't really use these values to make useful comparison between the past and now (see below example) - also you can't use them to compare 2 different instruments.
- The "Relative" calculation option in K-MACD addresses that issue by relating all "distances" to the Baseline MA as percentage (above or below) - you can see this clear when you look at the above chart the far left versus the far right and compare K-MACD with the classic MACD - the Classic option is still available
- More MA "type" options for all MA lines: choose between SMA, EMA, WMA, and RSS_WMA (which i use a lot in my trading and is my default for the Price Proxy)
- More Alerts: a total or 9 alerts (in 3 groups) are available with K-MACD (Momentum above or below baseline, Price Proxy crossing signal line, and Price Proxy crossing baseline)
- New 52 week High / Low markers: These will show as Green/red circles on the zero line in K-MACD. this will only work for 1D timeframe and above, i'm just using a simple approach and would like to keep it that way.

Closing thoughts

K-MACD is a combination of couple of indicators i published in the past (xMACD and Mo_Bars) - so you can go back and read about them if needed - I then added improvements to accommodate ideas from swing trading literature and common practices that i plan to focus on in future. So K-MACD is really part of my own trading setup.
I assume here that most traders are familiar with what a MACD is - so kept this post short - if you thing we should expand more about the concepts covered here let me know in the comments - i can make some separate posts with examples and more details.

[Sidders] MACDEMASAR IndicatorCame across a cool idea for a strategy that couldn't find in the indicator database, so decided to code it up myself for your pleasure.
Indicators consists of 3 indicators: EMA(200) to determine the overall trend, and the MACD & Parabolic SAR to determine entries (and exits).
Long entry contains 4 conditions and is generated when price is above the 200EMA (1), the MACD crosses above the signal line (2), while they are both below 0 line (3) and when the parabolic SAR is below the closing price of the bar (4).
Short entry is build up the same but in reverse: price is below the 200EMA(1), signal line crosses below the MACD line (2), while they are both above the 0 line (3) and when the parabolic SAR is above the closing price of the bar (4).
Place the stoploss on the parabolic SAR dot below/above the candle that created the signal. Profit target 1:1 risk:reward ratio, but can ofcourse be changed according to your risk apetite. Might add automatically drawn SL/TPs in a later update.
Concept behind the strategy should work on all timeframes, but will require proper backtesting. I think with additional filters the strategy can also be way more finetuned and profitable, personally haven't had the time yet to dive into that.

MACD-RSI Confluence SimplifiedAnother simple version of the MACD RSi Confluence script. But this is one is more simplified with simple signals. Again to fully understand macd & RSI you should already have some type of knowledge of how they work. With understanding this script & it's signals are great for those who do. The code for counting the crosses, for deciding what counts as "close enough", and for auto-adjusting for resolutions 1D or longer, might be useful for Pinescripters. EVWMA VWAP MACD Strategy [QuantNomad]Based on comment of @coondawg71 I tried to compare VWAP and EVWMA.
Both are sort of moving averages so I decided to create a MACD based on these 2 indicators.
In parameters you can set EVWMA Length and 2 smoothing lengths for "macd" and "signal".
Strategy seems to work pretty good at 2h-8h timeframes for crypto.

I am reading "Investing with Volume Analysis: Identify, Follow, and Profit from Trends" by Buff Pelz Dormeier so I am going to implement all indicators that are considered there.
VW-MACD was developed by Buff Pelz Dormeier in 2000 and is based on the difference between a short-term volume-weighted moving average and a long-term volume-weighted moving average. The signal line is traditionally left as an exponential moving average.

Multi-Functional Fisher Transform MTF with MACDL TRIGGERWhat this indicator gives you is a true signal when price is exhausted and ready for a fast turnaround. Fisher Transform is set for multi-time frame and also allows the user to change the length. This way a user can compare two or more time spans and lengths to look for these MACDL divergent triggers after a Fisher exhaustion. With so many indicators, it's probably best to merge these indicators and change the Fisher and Trigger colors so you can still have a look at price action (remember to scale right after merger). I've noticed from time to time when you have Fisher 34 100 and 300 up and running on two different time frames such as 5 and 15 min charts, with MACDL triggers on the 100/300 or 34/100 you get a high probability trade trigger. However, there are rare exceptions such as when price moves in a parabolic state up or down for a long period where this indication does not work. Ideally this indicator works best in a sideways market or slow rising/descending moving market.

This variant replaces EMAs with Zero Lag Exponential Moving Averages (ZLEMA), reducing delay and increasing the indicator’s responsiveness. This can potentially lead to earlier trend change detection, especially in highly volatile markets.
Calculation Methodology
2.1 Zero-Lag Exponential Moving Average (ZLEMA)
The classic EMA formula is extended with a correction factor:

Fisher Transform of MACD w/ Quantile Bands [Loxx]Fisher Transform of MACD w/ Quantile Bands is a Fisher Transform indicator with Quantile Bands that takes as it's source a MACD. The MACD has two different source inputs for fast and slow moving averages.
What is Fisher Transform?
The Fisher Transform is a technical indicator created by John F. Ehlers that converts prices into a Gaussian normal distribution.
The indicator highlights when prices have moved to an extreme, based on recent prices. This may help in spotting turning points in the price of an asset. It also helps show the trend and isolate the price waves within a trend.
What is Quantile Bands?
In statistics and the theory of probability, quantiles are cutpoints dividing the range of a probability distribution into contiguous intervals with equal probabilities, or dividing the observations in a sample in the same way. There is one less quantile than the number of groups created. Thus quartiles are the three cut points that will divide a dataset into four equal-size groups (cf. depicted example). Common quantiles have special names: for instance quartile, decile (creating 10 groups: see below for more). The groups created are termed halves, thirds, quarters, etc., though sometimes the terms for the quantile are used for the groups created, rather than for the cut points.
q-Quantiles are values that partition a finite set of values into q subsets of (nearly) equal sizes. There are q − 1 of the q-quantiles, one for each integer k satisfying 0 < k < q. In some cases the value of a quantile may not be uniquely determined, as can be the case for the median (2-quantile) of a uniform probability distribution on a set of even size. Quantiles can also be applied to continuous distributions, providing a way to generalize rank statistics to continuous variables. When the cumulative distribution function of a random variable is known, the q-quantiles are the application of the quantile function (the inverse function of the cumulative distribution function) to the values {1/q, 2/q, …, (q − 1)/q}.
What is MACD?
Moving average convergence divergence ( MACD ) is a trend-following momentum indicator that shows the relationship between two moving averages of a security’s price. The MACD is calculated by subtracting the 26-period exponential moving average ( EMA ) from the 12-period EMA .

Divergence Macd+RSI Fast[RSU] -- No RepaintThis indicator combines the divergence of rsi and macd and displays it on the candlestick chart.
RSI:
1. When rsi is at a high point, once it falls by 1 k line, it will detect the divergence from the previous high point. This can quickly find the divergence that has taken effect and help you quickly capture the trend before a sharp decline or rise.
The difference between other RSI divergence indicators: the official divergence indicator is to detect the 5 and the k line, which may lead to a large amount of decline.
2. This indicator detects the previous high and the previous low of 5, 10, 20 lengths at the same time, instead of only detecting a fixed length, so that more deviations can be found.
MACD:
1. When MACD-diff line(orange color) is at a high point, once it falls by 1 k line, it will detect the divergence from the previous high point. This can quickly find the divergence that has taken effect and help you quickly capture the trend before a sharp decline or rise.
2. This indicator detects the previous high and the previous low of 5, 10, 20, 40 , 60 lengths at the same time, instead of only detecting a fixed length, so that more divergences can be found.
Notice:
Because it is a quick divergence detection, it is recommended to confirm that the divergence takes effect after the current k is completely closed first. I have identified this state in the indicator as "k not end".
Disadvantages and Risks:
Since it is a quick discovery, there will be error identification. Error divergences will recolor to grey.
Suggestion:
Use Alert catching divergence occurrences.
Please do not:
Don't go short in the uptrend, don't go long in the downtrend.
Top divergences that occur because of a strong uptrend are usually only temporary pullbacks. Bottom divergences in persistent declines are also temporary rallies. Do not attempt to trade such low-return trades.
It is recommended to use the divergence indicator when the stock price has made a new high and retraced, and once again made a new high, because this often leads to the end of the trend.
Divergence how to use:
1. After the previous candlestick was completely closed, a bottom divergence was found.
2. Open an long order at the beginning of the second bar, or as close to the bottom as possible (because the stop loss will be smaller).
3. Break the stop loss price below the previous low where the divergence occurred, which already means that the divergence is wrong.
